We built Fpgawright because we've felt the pain of a missed timing violation at tape-out

Three engineers in Boston — two from ASIC design houses, one from EDA tooling — building the verification tool we needed and couldn't find.

The founding story

Elena Rodriguez spent four years as a verification engineer at two ASIC design houses before co-founding Fpgawright in 2024. The specific frustration: watching her team spend three weeks re-running VCS simulations to isolate a clock-domain crossing that a 30-minute static analysis pass would have surfaced. The violation was a reconvergence hazard in the memory-controller clock domain — exactly the class of issue their linter was configured to ignore because it generated too many false positives on other modules.

The existing tools were either too expensive — formal verification suites at $50K–$200K per seat — or too generic. Open-source RTL linters apply the same rule set to every design, with no understanding of your architecture's history, your known failure modes, or the violations that caused your last respin. They also generate noise that engineers learn to ignore. Which means the signal gets ignored too.

Fpgawright's founding bet: static analysis with learned weights from your own design history changes the economics of verification. A 28nm tape-out respin costs roughly $850K in direct NRE. Fpgawright Team is $490 per seat per month. One avoided respin covers years of subscription — for a team of six, the break-even is less than a week of prevented simulation.

We're not a full formal verification suite. We don't replace simulation. We run a static analysis pass in minutes that catches the class of RTL violations that simulation finds in weeks — and we do it using the specific bug patterns your team has already documented. That's the scope. We started in Boston in 2024 with three engineers and a working prototype. Bootstrapped, no external funding, focused on a working product over growth metrics.
